Steam games not launching

My steam games will not launch.
They install successfully, say 100% ready in the steam window, and when I go to launch them, the "Preparing to launch (game name)" comes up. That promptly disappears, but the game never loads....

I have this problem with Half Life 2(and the multiple episodes), CS:source, Dawn of War, TF2, and Day of Defeat, and Dark Messiah (my entire game list)

PLEASE help!

Hi,

Please provide us with your platform/OS/videocard specifications.
Also, which version of crossover are you using?

Cheers!

version 8.1.4 of crossover games
Mac OS X 10.6.2 (snow leopard)
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M

I have this same issue. Installed Steam using the automated installer, then started downloading some of my games. Tested TF2 and Dawn of War 2 but they just show the "Preparing to launch xxx" then the popup box disappears.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with Crossover Games 9.2.1 and an ATI x1900 card.

I've been reading the forums and have tried both of the suggestions found at: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/wiki/cxgamesapp_steamsourcegames but that doesnt seem to help. I've also gone into the Steam bottle and edited the library tab to manual disable the gameoverlayrenderer variable.

Anyone got clues on what my next steps of troubleshooting could be?

try cxgames 9.2.0 . 9.2.1 doesn't work for me either, same issues

Worked like a treat, cheers for that mate!

Hi,

Which apps are/were failing for you with 9.2.1? I've spotted
this in beta as well, and just looking to get a handle on how
widespread this might be -- feedback appreciated!

Cheers!

all games doesnt work. Half Life 2 and addons, counter strike source, left4dead 1&2, mafia2, grid, call of duty mw2&black ops,.... no game at all launches. Steam says game is starting and after 7 seconds this window disappear, no process of the game in the system monitor

Hmmm...ok...I'm only seeing 4 failing (all HL2 titles run, but
TF2|CS:S|GMod + another do as described here) ; thanks for the
feedback....

Cheers!

I have this problem before, but its easy for me to solve:

First, go to your wine configuration,

Then, go to the libraries tab, then add:
gameoverlayrenderer.dll

Next, edit the newly added .dll and set it to Disable.

This is how I solve this problem, I faced it before.

Hi,

Indeed, this is the current workaround and seemingly the
area of contention (confirmed it last night) - there is a bug
now entered for it, we'll have to sit on our hands for a bit and
see what happens next. Thanks for posting the info!

Cheers!
