Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light

I picked this up on the Steam sale today, and with my i7 iMac with a Radeon 5750 GPU, 8GB RAM, crossover 9.2 and 10.6.5, it installs, loads and even starts fine. When you get into the actual gameplay it has problems. The screen is completely out of whack, like the textures are not applied to everything, and there is no movement to speak of, either WASD or mouse. I tried to turn all of the settings off to see if it improved, but to no avail, sadly this is a no-go for now.

I also picked this up. Controls work fine, but the graphics is all messed up here too. OTOH, someone claims that this works perfectly with plain wine after some additional tinkering, see here:

winehq appdb

I tried to follow those instructions, but no success. I use linux / nv 260gt / cxgames 9.2.
I also tried this with wine 1.3.7 and it failed to even start.

Hi,

Going by those winehq instructions, you might need stuff provided by
http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=7558 after
first installing directx9redist modern -- I know this will provide some
dx10/11 dlls you don't normally have around. As always, back up your
bottles etc before installing the above app -- it's a bit bulky and
provides .NET 2.0 and mshtml7 if not already present,...but I have known
it to help sometimes ; it seldom breaks anything...

Cheers!

Well, that didn't help :(, but it didn't break anything (further) either...

Thanks anyways...

Ok, maybe this does not belong to cxgames forums, but I mention it anyways: I got this to work with wine 1.3.7, with some help from cxgames 😊

That is, I installed the game with cxgames, including the stuff that Don mentioned. But the graphics was still messed up. And the plain wine based installation did not run at all. I then just pointed my WINEPREFIX to that cxgames lara bottle, and launched wine 1.3.7, and against all odds it all seems to work perfectly, except that now I don't have in-game sound...

(It would probably have worked straight with wine, but I prolly did something wrong there, and could find out what that was...)

As it works with wine now, I'm guessing that it will probably work with cxgames in near future...

Nice, can't wait for the next version, so many things I am hoping that run.

And still doesn't...

...but I got the sound to work by disabling mmdevapi (winecfg > libraries > overrides).
