I was able to install Steam with zero issues using the installation profile. It then allowed me to download/install the game Left4Dead2. However, when I attempt to play the game it gets stuck at "preparing to launch". I can see the game show up in the taskbar, like it is about to load and then it simply vanishes.

I have tried everything located on the tips & tricks page, tons and tons of different launcher option combinations, deleting the registry value for Left4Dead2 in case it was a bad video setting, and anything else I could find on Google.

Basically, nothing I try can get the game to actually load. I don't get an error or anything, it just vanishes.

I am using Crossover Games 9.2.0 (paid) on Ubuntu 10.4 LTS.

CPU: Phenom II X4 965BE
Video: Radeon 5850

I know my hardware is not an issue. It is more than enough for this title.

Edit: I made a log by running the executable from within the bottle itself and not through Steam. The same problem occurs, but here is what is in the log:

I am using the drivers that come with the Ubuntu 10.4 hardware manager. I know they are the proprietary version from ATI; driver version 8.x, not sure which Catalyst package it is based on.

What do the last 6 lines of output from that command say?

Alright. I will have to do that a little later. I was actually forced to install Vista over everything because I had a competitive LAN party last night, and the game was L4D2, the only one I could not get to work with CXGames. I will reinstall later, and post the information.

I do know it installed the DirectX runtimes during the Steam installation.

I have played other games using CXGames, and they all work fine (World of Warcraft, and some other MMO's), but I just can't get Left4Dead2 to load at all. No errors, no crashes - nothing.
