DirectX 8.1 on Mac

hello,

i have a question about DirectX 8.1. I downloaded the trial version of CrossOver Games 9.1.0 for Mac, and now trying to get some sample DirectX programs to run, but with no luck so far. The samples are from DirectX 8 SDK - such as BillBoard.exe, DolphinVS.exe, etc. None seem to work unfortunately, and they all fail with the same error, which suggests that somehow the DirectX runtime isn't installed or configured properly, i

The error message says:

Then when i click that away, it fails to use software rasterizer as well:

I'm running this on 15" MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard (Mac OSX 10.6.3) with NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB. Installed a WinXP bottle with "Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Modern". Tried the Legacy runtime as well, but with no difference...

Here's the log file:

Another odd thing is that i can't run dxdiag.exe - it quits right away with no error message.

If anyone has suggestions or tips on how to get this working, that'd be awesome.
thanks.

The issue seems to be with loading of the textures: the application can't find them, even though i have them in the same directory.
Looking into it.

i've got some samples and tutorial programs to work fine, but not all. The failures appear to be related to reading of .x model files. Some are being read successfully, some aren't. I haven't quite figured out why.

got it all working now. Installing Microsoft DirectX Runtime - Legacy fixed all the issues.
Also, copied dxdiag.exe from my windows xp machine, and it works perfectly under Crossover Games.
