I have successfully gotten Steam through the L4D2 disk and it's up and running but they'res no way to get back to it once it's closed. Crossover says it's still installing Other Game.

Try instead of installing Steam from the disc install it from a download and then use steam to install l4d2 from the disc? should work...
and heck if the app is running but crossover is still thinking about installing just click "force installation completion" it (should) create the alias's and stuff... (SHOULD) but i'd try the download way
