problem with half life 2: episode one

hello all,

as the title suggests, i am having some trouble with half life 2: episode one.

when i reach the surface again with alyx. i now get spotted by the 'combine' and finally get my hands on a machine gun again. if anyone has played the game, you will know where i am at.
but at the part where you meet the 'antlions' comes into play again, the game starts to freeze and does a jittery sound for a while then decides to pop up with an error message and has to close half life 2 down. but steam is still left open.

i was running into this problem before as well, but it used to stay in that place, and i had to press the 'alt, option, esc' keys to get out, but it didn't go to the force quit window, but just quits when pressed. i know that not the right thing to do, but it had to be done.

i have recently upgraded to snow leopard, and the update for it of os x 6.1. but these problems did happen already in os x 5.8.

computer used is 15" mbp 5.1, 2.53 duo core 4gb ram, os x 6.1

hope you can help, or at least others are having this trouble that may know a solution

cheers...

lewis

I'm having this issue too in Counter-Strike: Source. At completely random times (sometimes after 2 minutes of play, sometimes after 20) the game freezes and also gets stuck in an audio loop (the last second or two of game sounds is looped annoyingly). An error message also pops up for me, it closes down CS:S but Steam is also still left open for me.

I am running CrossOver Games for Mac on a MacBook Pro 13" unibody running Mac OS X 10.6.1.

What graphics cards do you (two) have on your macs? You've tried lowering in-game graphics settings, running in a window, and lowering the -dxlevel (i.e. "-dxlevel 81") in Steam's Launch Options, and none of these things have made a difference?

well the graphics card i have is both a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M & 9600M GT. my mac book pro is the unibody 15".

i have not tried other settings just yet, as i have been busy lately, but since it is the weekend, i will give it a go right now...
