Call of Juarez Runtime Error

I am trying to run the original Call of Juarez.

I have updated the game to the latest version and see the splash screen.

However, I get Microsoft Visual C Runtime error. It says "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."

I am running as Windows XP (I have tried 98 and Vista as well) and emulating a virtual desktop (800x600).

I have tried installing Microsoft Visual C 2008, 20055, and 6.0.

I have also installed DirectX Runtime - Modern.

Any ideas to make this game work?

Crossover Games 8.0 is based on wine-1.1.25 ; a quick check over
at WineHQ suggests you should be able to get this running with
COG-8.0 ...have a look at the following..;

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3632

What you are probably having trouble with, is something called 'Starforce'
as detailed in wine-bug 3260 ...see;

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3260

Hope this helps...

Cheers!

I have patched the game to version 1.1.1 which I thought removed the Starforce/securom issue. Now when it starts the game, it longer complains that it can't see the disc and I can see the splash screen. If the starforce was still there, I shouldn't be able to get to see the flashscreen.

I am running the latest Crossover 8.0.

The Wine forum says "If the game doesn't run on fullscreen mode with error message "Failed to initialize rendering device. Check if your graphic card supports DirectX 9.0c". Change the game video screen resolution to 800x600 in the game configure file out\Settings\Video.scr."

Where is the video.scr located? I can't find it on the "C" drive.

The exact path depends on what OS you are using, which
you haven't indicated yet ;)

I am running Mac (Snow Leopard 10.6.1).

Thanks for you quick responses!

Well, obviously I don't the exact path (not having this title myself), but
it should be in the game's installation dir somewhere under the following
path...(somewhere in Program Files);

/Users/your-user-name/Library/Application Support/Crossover Games/Bottles/bottlename/drive_c/Program Files/.../...

Cheers!
