Steam IM Alert; fixed(v8.1.0)/broken(v8.1.3)

So, with the version 8.1.0 update, I noticed that the sound played when an incoming IM is received started to work for the first time. :O I was wondering if it was accidental; the change log doesn't list any fix on that from my understanding. If it was, it was worded poorly. I assume it was "Fix a number of Mac audio issues which should fix Steam voice chat". When I first read that, I assumed it was a fix on the call option through Steam Community. Anyways, the real issue I wanted to point out is that the IM alert stopped working with the version 8.1.2 update. I mainly wanted to post this in case the fix was indeed accidental, so that hopefully it can be looked at and repaired again in the next update. It was so nice knowing when I got new messages right away rather than noticing hours later. x]

Oh, sorry for not sending this through the ticket system the first time; but thanks for forwarding it.
I just wanted to point out that I made a mistake in my post, the IM alert stopped working in 8.1.3, NOT 8.1.2. ^^;

Posting in here again to say that the Steam IM alert started working again today... o.o shrugs

The Mac audio fix noted in the 8.1.0 changelog is a general fix. One of the obvious issues that it fixed was voice chat in Steam (although the in-game community features still don't work), but it affected more than just that.

The problem was that the audio driver that CrossOver uses to interface between Windows programs and the Mac audio subsystem could not support opening the audio output device more than once in a given process. Now it can.

Since 8.1.0 there have been no changes to the Mac audio support in CrossOver Games. I don't know if the issue had to do with Steam (it has been updated a couple of times) or your settings or perhaps there's still some latent bug. But it wasn't due to changes in CrossOver Games.
