Star Wars Episode 1 Racer

I got this game installed fine but a few things still bug me; the first is that it's impossible to skip the opening cinematics, the keyboard goes totally irresponsive apart from apple-quit. This issue repeats itself when I try to configure the controls. The other problem, is that there's this cheat code, you have to press shift-4-f4 at the same time, and it doesn't work (the Dashboard, coded to f4, comes up.

Could anyone help me with these problems? The cheats code I can do without, but I'd really appreciate any help which tells me a way to not wait 5 minutes for the cinematics to end (what's more there is a cinematic at the beginning of each race).
Thanks, JW

I own the original CD but was unable to get through the installation of Episode 1 Racer without crashing. I found a torrent on Demonoid from a guy who got it perfectly working in Crossover Chromium (doesn't display cinematics, settings are customizable.

I was wondering if it's possible through Crossover to run the game in windowed mode instead of fullscreen; some way to force it.

Also, the game displays dual mouse cursors which is annoying. Any way to literally remove the cursor file from Crossover?

You can use the Graphics tab of the winecfg control panel to enable emulation of a virtual desktop in a window.

Thanks for your quick reply. I enabled emulation of the virtual desktop, but on first load it opened fullscreen anyway, froze, and then on every load following crashed before it could open the bottle-- had to delete the Application Support folder entirely and reload to make it work. Was worth a shot, at least.

Um, that's not good. It's not always clear what you're referring to, though. There were a lot of "it"s in there. 😊

What froze, CrossOver or the game? What crashed?

I'm not entirely sure what the uploader did when they used a copy of Crossover Chromium to package the game; it has the bottle structure, but all references to Crossover have been mostly ripped out. I was able to find winecfg in the package through a file search and run it, but after enabling and applying virtual desktop the game would open in fullscreen and then freeze until I Cmd+Q'ed it. Every attempt to load the bottle after that failed in the first few seconds. If you're interested in the original dmg to recreate what I'm talking about, I could send you a link to it in my Dropbox.

I decided to try moving the Program Files\Episode 1 Racer folder into my original Crossover Games 8 Mac WinXP bottle to try your suggestion there and was able to get it working without an issue. Thanks for pointing me to this feature, throughout the process I learned quite a bit more about your excellent product! I'm still pretty interested in trying to remove the dual-mouse issue by deleting the .cur or .ani file, if that's possible?

Sorry for such an extensive reply, but I have one more question: since I didn't install the game into the bottle as one normally would, is there any way to either:
A) Set the specific application to run in virtual desktop mode (I don't want Steam or it's games to use that feature) or
B) Duplicate the bottle and have Ep 1 Racer run specifically in the duplicate that has the virtual desktop feature turned on.

Very much appreciate your time.

It may be possible. You can search through the bottle for such a file. However, I would guess that most programs would keep their cursor resources inside the executable. Or, they may even create the cursor from scratch at runtime.

No, the virtual desktop feature is bottle-wide. It doesn't work per-application.

Yes, you can duplicate a bottle in the Manage Bottles window using the Add Duplicate button.
