I just created a bottle without problem using CrossOver Games 8 on my 10.6.1 system.
Things you can try/check:
Do you have any haxies, third-party kernel extensions, or other "system enhancers" installed? You might try temporarily disabling those.
Try creating a new user account on your system, logging into that, and running CrossOver Games there. If that works better, then the problem is specific to your regular user account.
Did CrossOver Games work for you previously (with a previous version or a previous OS version)?
If you can't get this resolved with the above tips, please open a support ticket. It's much easier for us to track the issue and exchange diagnostic information in the context of a ticket than in these forums.
Yeah, I even went ahead and popped open CXG to ensure that it was working correctly as soon as I updated to 10.6. TF2 ran perfectly as usual and all was good in the world. Upon updating to 10.6.1, I was unable to even load Steam as I had been able to for over a year with all previous versions of both OSX and CXG. So I went about completely uninstalling CXG via the support link on your site and reinstalling hoping it would help, and I deleted all of my previously used bottles as well [other saved games be damned, I just want my TF2!!]. CXG8 installed fine, but upon crating a brand new bottle for Steam, the auto-setup fails and even manually I can't get anything installed, let alone up and running.
I'll try the new user account and see if that changes anything, perhaps this is Steam specific?
I went ahead and created a new user to run CXG, to no avail. It wasn't even able to create a default bottle upon first opening the program, and receives the same errors upon manually creating a bottle for Steam as well. Kind of a bummer as everything worked flawlessly until I upgraded to 10.6.1. I've created a ticket as instructed and hope to hear back soon.
Did you make sure to include the install of the X11 package when you installed 10.6? If not (of if you're not sure), insert your Mac OS 10.6 CD, open the Optional Installs folder, and run the X11 installer.
Yeah, I definitely installed it. Everything ran fine under 10.6 but upon upgrading to 10.6.1 everything got borked. I couldn't even get Steam to start up. I ended up deleting everything and trying to start over from scratch per the instructions on this site to no avail, and now I'm not even able to install a default bottle.
Problem has been resolved via support ticket. Had some fonts that didn't want to play nice with CXG.
All is well now, thanks!!
