Hello. I am a mac user who is trying to decide how to run windows games on my computer. Crossover games definitely seems like the way to go. But before I do anything, I need some questions answered:
1: I know Valve was very supportive of this project, so Steam games work well (I think). But do games from Steam stay up-to-date by themselves like they would on a normal PC? What I'm getting at here is, I want to be able to unlock the new weapons for each class in Team Fortress 2. You do this through achievements that were released by Valve and (I'm assuming) integrated directly into the everyone's game. Will I get these?
2: I was reading Crossover Games reviews, and some of them mentioned a codeweavers contract that had to renewed after a year if I wanted continued... I'm sorry, I don't remember. What does this mean?
3: Will games like Team Fortress 2 work on a Intel iMac original? It has a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. I don't know much else about it.
In case you couldn't tell I am not tech-savvy. Sorry.
I'm a linux user but I'll answer what questions I can.
2: When you purchase Crossover games what you get is a 1 year support contract. This entitles you to download updates and log support requests for supported games for 1 year. After this time if you wish to continue getting updates you need to purchase another year contract.
Here is the link to the compatibility page for Team Fortress 2.
Good news it's a supported Application (STEAM version only) so if you have any issues when you purchase you can log and official support ticket for your issue.
Also it appears to be supported by quite a few MAC users/owners and there are numerous threads on work arounds and issues in the games forums.
As for hardware wise your Processor seems ok I'd recommend an nVidia card but as I said I'm not a MAC owner maybe someone in the game forums (Forums Tab in the link above) can answer your questions a bit better on the hardware front.
Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
