Which distro is best?

I've been trying to get WoW to work on CentOS and the performance is bad. I've gotten some great help from the CrossOver guys so no complaints there. I originally wanted to use Ubuntu but couldn't even get WoW to install. My box is a couple of years old, so that may be the problem, but WoW worked just fine under Windows (sry, I hate windows too).

So, I'm curious to hear from people who have switched from windows to Linux (using CrossOver Games) and what kind of luck they've had on the different distros.

Comments?

Thanks,
Dave

We find Ubuntu 8.10 and Opensuse 11.1 seem to run Crossover Games and WoW really well here in the office. Jack's Fedora 10 does ok, but it likes to break his proprietary video driver after every system update so he has to keep reinstalling the nvidia driver, kind of a pain.

I had WOW running with CXGames on Ubuntu 8.10 with no problems. The install takes a long time, it downloads a lot of packages before installing them. Then, once you run it for the first time, it installs a bunch of patches, so the whole process takes a couple of hours. That should be the case on Windows too, though.

When I upgraded my machine from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04, I exported the bottle, and imported it on the new install, and everything worked great. It even put the launchers back on the desktop, although the icon was blank, so I had to fix that. So, I didn't actually run the install on Ubuntu 9.04, but the game itself runs great there as well.
