I now found a pretty good replacement: Double Commander

https://doublecommander.com/

Apparently there is a new version of Speedcommander 20 out: https://www.speedproject.de/download/ -is there any particular reason that you need the older version?

The newer version unfortunately does also not work

Just Installed and looked through the log for SpeedCommander 20. It seems that the following error is occurring

wine: Call from 000000017002AD68 to unimplemented function SHELL32.dll.Shell_GetCachedImageIndexW, aborting

It seems the this error is patched in Wine 8.3
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54581
https://www.winehq.org/announce/8.3
However using WineHQ Staging 8.6, looks to still has the same issue

ok, thank! Will try with Crossover version 23 when its available with Wine 8.x

Is there a possibility to select a certain WINE version in Crossover (In Lutris this is possible)?

Unfortunately, no. CodeWeavers' strategy is to use one of the latest and heavily tested versions as a base for their product. There are stability advantages to this aproach, but there is the limitation of not having the ability to use the specific conditions of a specific wine version, something that I do miss, too.

Still receive the same error message with Crossover 23 using latest SpeedCommander version 20

I tried now installing older version of Speedcommander and Speedcommander 16 to 20 have the same error. However Speedcommander 15 I could successfully install and run!

I tried now Speedcommander 20 with Crossover Linux 24 and it finally runs! I suppose then Speedcommander version 17, 18 and 19 will also work. Current version is Crossover 21
