Shortcuts and i3 window manager
Posted 2018-07-03 10:44
Hi there,

I am just trying out the trial w/ office 2016. I'm on an Ubuntu 16.04 install with the i3 Window manager.

The install seemed to go fine. But I cannot find the EXE's anywhere to run the apps. My assumption is that I may have to create some sort of .desktop file or the like. I was also going to just test by running the EXE direct.

I was poking around in `/home/<user>/.cxoffice/Microsoft_Office_2016/drive_c/Program Files/` and I did not find any office files in there. I just had:

Common Files
Internet Explorer
Windows Media Player
Windows NT

I must be missing something simple here....

* NOTE - IDIOCY. had to run the installer a second time. All is good.

Hm - looks like the app did not actually install. BRB - going to try again.

In any case, the desktop files should be created, somewhere in ~/.local/share/applications. I know it works for me with Steam + i3 just a few days ago(or any other desktop for that matter). They show up just using rufi.

If they don't show up, they install went bad, and that is where the problem is. Unfortunately, I don't have office 2016 to try and figure things out myself.
