Managed bottle directory on shared drive must be writable for local root?

Hello everyone,

I have a managed bottle that was installed on a shared drive according to http://www.codeweavers.com/support/docs/crossover-pro/advanced-config#shareddrive.

I understand that the shared drive / the bottle directories must be writable for the root user during installation. That's clear.

But now I am sharing this managed bottle via NFS to many clients. The root users there do NOT have write access to the bottle directory. Still, I would like to run the command as local root:
/common/software/cxoffice/bin/cxbottle --bottle default --install
as mentioned in the above docs.

Now, that command fails due to the missing write permissions.

So my question is: Why does a local root need write access to the managed bottle directory on a shared drive just to install the shortcuts (and so on) on the local system?!?

Best regards,
J Brauchle
