Tip/Solution: Ctrl shortcuts not working under Gnome

I had a problem where Ctrl keyboard shortcuts (for example "Ctrl+c" for copy) weren't working; the "Ctrl" part kept being stripped off.

After playing around with things for a while, I found the culprit to be one of the mouse settings. When the "Locate Pointer" feature is enabled, it causes this problem. These settings can be accessed via:

System -> Preferences -> Mouse

and then unchecking the "Show position of pointer when Control key is pressed" checkbox under "Locate Pointer"

Hopefully this helps someone :)
