Opening docs from Thunderbird with Crossover Apps

Posting my comment here if it can help others.
Running
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64-bit
Crossover Linux
MS Office 2003 Word/Excel/Powerpoint in one bottle
MS Project 2003 (2nd bottle)
MS Visio 2003 (3rd bottle)
Thunderbird 3.0.4

I get many emails with attached documents that I want to open with their applicable MS Office product without having to save the file and opening it either by double-clicking it, or doing a File > Open from the menus.

  1. Launch Thunderbird
  2. Click/navigate the menus to Edit > Preferences > Attachments
  3. For each respective Content Type entry (e.g. Microsoft PowerPoint Presentation) click the Action entry (mine defaulted to "Always Ask") and select "Use other".
  4. Navigate to the bottle and launcher in the bottle to use (e.g. "/home/YOUR_NAME_HERE/.cxoffice/Microsoft Visio 2003/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^5E3A^5Fusers^5Fcrossover^5FStart^2BMenu/Programs/Microsoft+Office/Microsoft+Office+Visio+2003" and note that the .cxoffice directory in your home directory MAY be hidden. Click Ctrl-H to unhide them or find the option in your file navigator of choice to show the hidden files/directories)
  5. Do steps 3 and 4 for each entry for which you want to set the Crossover application.
  6. Click Close when done.
  7. Click on an email attachment and select "Open"
  8. Enjoy hours of productive messaging!

Fantastic tip, would be a great addition to the tips and tricks pages for the office apps.
