When I try to install from the downloaded file, I get a message: Install needs to know what application to use. What do I do with that? When I try to install from terminal per the instructions, I get messages about how that won't work. I bought this program a few years back and it practically installed itself! What am I doing wrong?

I'm using 10.04 running inside Vista, and I have no idea of what you mean when you ask "which installer." Last time I bought Crossover and installed it, I recall downloading it, clicking on the download and getting the install screen. So now I have the download, what do I do next? It does tell me that I need an application to run the download, but how do I access which application?
