I have installed Crossover paid version and can't find it after i installed it. I have used Synaptic manager to remove and reinstall but still i can't find where it is.
After doing a search i find lots of files at a location opt/cxoffice/lib/wine/comctl32.dll.so this is one file among many.
The actual files you need will be in /opt/cxoffice/bin/...
Menu entries -should- have been created during install -
sometimes this doesn't happen (usually linux distrocentric)
Did you install crossover using the ,sh package (shell installer)
or the .deb package? Which window-manager are you using? (XFCE, KDE,
GNOME?) Knowing these things may help me help you ;)
I am using Gnome
I installed using the Deb package installer
When i go to Applications their nothing listed.
If i try to install again after using the Deb package installer it installs and tells me That crossover is already installed. Each time i also reboot in case that's what it takes to list in applications.
/opt/cxoffice/bin/... may be the location but being new i don't know how to find them.
Okay....ubuntu 9.04 is downloading in the background here - as it's
a new release, I'll install it in a VM and have a look.
If the .deb package is saying crossover is already installed, it
probably is - you would need to use your package-manager (probably
synaptic in gnome) to remove it before attempting a reinstall. (I
wouldn't leap to do this ; .deb packages usually install correctly)
Meanwhile you might like have a look here for some instructions ;
Also, you might try logging in to a KDE session and see it the menus
appear there...note: you don't need reboot to have things appear in
menus. (it's not that I'm trying to turn you away from gnome, it's
just a something I would try)
Lastly, I'm in .AU and it's nearly midnight - if my insomnia holds
firm, I'll get back to this in a couple of hours - otherwise not, and
it'll be several hours 😉
Well, you wouldn't have gotten far with KDE unless you first install it...
(sorry about that one)
As for ubuntu 9.04 + installing crossover standard. I didn't find any
problems -- downloaded the .deb and double-clicked on it, package-manager
answered, installed dependency packages (11 of them I think, ia-32 support
libs), and et_voila, crossover appears in applications->crossover....
I used this iso --> ubuntu-9.04-desktop-amd64.iso
I can't imagine that the 32bit version of ubuntu 9.04 would do any thing
different (in the case that is what you installed?), but whatever...I'll
grab the 32bit version and check 'just in case'...exactly which version
of ubuntu 9.04 did you use?
An install using --> ubuntu-9.04-desktop-i386.iso behaved
exactly the same as the amd64 release...ie; no problems at
all with the crossover install - menus appear 'as expected'.
Not sure why you mentioned the update manager (I don't use
ubuntu myself), however I did let it update the installations
and found nothing awry.
So I'm a bit stumped as to why you're having this problem.
Granted you're new to linux and so forth, and there's a lot
of room for 'pilot error' here <grin>...but that said, there's
not a lot one can do wrong with an ubuntu install, nor in the
process of installing crossover on ubuntu...
If you're still having problems, let me know -exactly- which
installation set you're using...ie; I've been using the cd
based 'desktop' releases, not the full blown dvd based install
sets -- which is about the last thing I can think of that -may-
explain this problem (differences between release sets)
Peter,
Is there any change if you run (in a terminal)
$ /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxmenu --install
and/or
$ /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxmenu --sync
and then logout/login to your user account?
