Office 2003 SP3 install broken in 7.0.2

Hi,

I've installed Office 2003 pro using the trial version of crossover, but whenever I try to install SP3 the updater always says "The update cannot be applied".

I have made sure that the CD is in the drive - and it does spin up during the update attempt.

I've tried installing Office 2003 and the update under VMWare and it works fine - so this has to be a problem with crossover.

I thought SP3 was supported?

Thanks,

M

FWIW, I was also unable to apply the SP3 patch. However, it's possible to rebuild the O2k3 installation CD and slipstream the SP3 patch so that you can install SP3 directly. You can google to find many instructions for doing so.

The developers have fixed this issue. You should get this with the next release of CrossOver.

Any ETA on this release? I am also having this problem with installing SP3.

I've got CX Linux 7.1.0-1 installed under Fedora 10 and I get this same issue. The sp3 installer unpacks, asks me if I want to install, does some stuff (as far as I can tell) then says it can't be applied. This is to a fresh install of Office 2k3sp1 in a win xp bottle. Any clues?

I just retested this with our internal builds and found there was a regression in the msi system that stopped SP3 from applying to Office 2003. The fix will be in the Crossover 8 release, which should be out in the next month.

Thanks for following this up, Andrew. I was wondering what was up as a colleague with (apparently) the same setup had it working fine. He bought 7.1 just a while before I did, though.

Just retried this with 8.0 and my existing Win2000 bottle and got the same error: "The update cannot be applied." Is this likely to be because I've got Visio 2003 in there as well? I've read that it won't work in the same bottle as Office 2003 (though they used to work together with crossover 6.1).

Not Visio: just created brand new, vanilla WinXP bottle, installed Office 2003sp1 from the installer, all happy. Run the SP3 update, it says it's been applied but after the simulated reboot I get a message saying it's failed.

I realize this particular post is being addressed in the ticket system, but you shouldn't need to install Office 2003 sp1 prior to sp3 - you should be able to just install sp3 as selected from the install software menu. It could be that the pre-existing sp1 install is confusing Crossover's installer when it tries to apply sp3.

Thanks for clarifying to run Office SP3 from Crossover install menu. Spent over 1 hour trying to download and install from within app before seeing this post and running through installer menu.
