Software runs but has expired (before its time)

I was given a program to run some midi-like files which are protected by the program having an expiry date. Th program is still within its expiry date, as it runs in VMWare (but unfortunately MIDI does not work very well in a virtual setting).
In Crossover the program will run but says it is expired. I assume there is a way of simulating the time settings in CrossOver?

Crossover uses the MacOS/Linux system clock, so if you want your Windows app to believe it is a different date, you have to change the Mac/Linux system time.

As I said, software was not expired - linux time settings were current - software must not have been reading this system time correctly then?
