Will Yahoo Messenger run with Crossover on Ubuntu ??

There are several versions - check the compatibility database
entries here ;

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/search?name=yahoo+messenger&search=app

LOL...well none of them work....not even the "silver" one

Indeed?....(hahaha ;)....I wonder how whoever managed
to rank it silver then...I'll check myself...

...well, I managed to get the version 9 release of this
client running under CX-8.0 on linux, but you do need
the full installer I think (I didn't try the network
installers at all based on an earlier thread), which
can be got from;

http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/yahoo-instant-messenger.html

...and other places, but don't even try version8 of the client

  • it installs fine, but fails to login for some reason (I had
    wireshark running, and it was pushing packets and getting ACKs
    from the servers...but couldn't login...a dead_herring in the
    works me thinks ;)...

....I have been mindfully ignoring CX's constant reminder that
I don't have the gnutls libs installed, the functions of which
I don't normally require, but in this case I thought it might
be something needed, so grabbed the tarballs and built/installed
same...in both 32&64bit guises. I've no idea if this had anything
to do with my result here....

Take this all with a large sack of salt too ; I state I got
it running....I've no idea if it is actually working 'coz
I don't know anyone else who uses this thing - that said, I have
left it running in the background here, so if you want to help
out, send a message to giant_clam2000 and I'll find out...

I downloaded the stand alone but it still wouldn't work...it signed in then slowly faded to black !!!

Thank you any hoo !!

Haha....I'd forgotten all about there for a moment, just
went back to check it, and found it had died sometime
ago and become an defunct task 😉

...if one of the devs doesn't notice this chatter and
re-rank it, I'll get an email happening to let them
know the silver medal is 'a tad ambitious' (;

😉

You guys can re-rank it yourselves and 'fix' the ranking. It was last ranked in CrossOver 6.1... so 'silver' may have been true at that time.

For that particular app, go to:

http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/my/ranked/?cmd=new;app_id=2757

For any app you want to rank, click 'submit rank' at the bottom and you can submit a rank as long as you have an account on our site.

😏

...done (8

Thanks Caron
