Deepin OS - Express Scribe Transcription Software and USB Alto Edge foot pedal

Hi Everyone,

I just recently migrated my wifes OS from Windows 10 to Deepin OS. The software that she uses to transcribe (Express Scribe Transcription Software) installed perfectly via crossover. In a Windows XP bottle - But for the life of me, I cannot get the usb alto edge foot pedal to be picked up via the software. If I do a basic check to see what USB devices are connected to her PC using terminal -> lsusb it shows the alto foot pedal is connected.

So long story short I had to swap hard drives from Deepin OS to Windows 10 for her to work today. I really would love if she ran linux instead of Windows. Has anyone come across this before? And how did they resolve it? I havent tried a Windows 7 Bottle, but my guess would be the same.

Cheers,
Pete

lsusb showing the foot pedal is a good sign! But in general, wine and CrossOver don't work well with USB devices...

The best information I got was this:

I guess you should open a ticket for your case. I used to have the same problem with my Rocksmith Realtone cable and eventually it started to work with CrossOver!

Meanwhile, you may have a partial solution using a Virtual Machine (I use the full version of Virtualbox) with Windows and your software installed in it (much better than having to dual-boot or swap hard drives!).

A better solution might be using a Linux native transcription software. I did a quick search and found this:

footswitch2 (uses Vlc for audio)
https://sourceforge.net/p/footswitch2

footswitch3 (uses Gstreamer for audio)
https://sourceforge.net/p/footswitch3

Some other programs (some of them seem to support foot pedals):

Thanks Silvo, will give it a go with the programs. I have used Virtual box before but didn't want to expose the wife to that...She will get confused lol

I was just hoping it would work natively.

Cheers,

Pete
