Wine Version for different CrossOver Versions

I recently used the old CrossOver 13.1.2 for my Windows applications. Since I no longer require to run new Microsoft products, I wish to stay on that version until something really breaks.

Recently I tried the trial of 14.1.1 for fun, and tried to see the Wine version of a wine bottle. It surprises me that the 14.1.1 runs the Wine v1.7.25 when my old 13.1.2 runs v1.7.4 which is very very recent.

Can I know how CrossOver updates the wine version and how does such method benefits me as a user?

Wine version 1.7.4 is actually very very old. Wine 1.7.25 is newer. The current version of wine is 1.7.42. Wine 1.7.4 and 1.7.40 are not the same release.

version 1.7.4 was released on October 11, 2013: https://www.winehq.org/news/2013101101
version 1.7.40 was released on April 3, 2015: https://www.winehq.org/news/2015040301

Omg how did I forget that such of a simple versioning scheme. Very sorry and thank you for clarifying that.

I am also interested on how CrossOver updates its wine version. Say, if I use 14.1.1 for 5 years to come, will I ever see the wine of version 1.7.99?
