This is an extract from the crash log save via the run command. For example, winword shows the splash screen but then crashes shortly after.

Here's the top of the microsoft log. The crash log seems to be in an infinite loop with the last .ddl being msxml that is mentioned.

Office 2007 runs fine.

Thoughts?

What's the full .exe name of the office installer you used, and maybe the MD5sum too?

Mine is crashing with a "repair error" on Ubuntu 18.04, but I'm kind of thinking there's a conflicting 32-bit or 64-bit Unix library in place causing my issues, we've been slowly hunting it down when I've had time to interface with support.

I think I zapped the installer (multiple o365 accounts) but I could download it again. I tried several installers and they all have an error at that function including 2013 installers it looks like.

Im slightly offtopic but HOW do you use the online update features of O365 ? I install and run some of them but updates are nowhere to see ..

Are you using a 32-bit or 64-bit bottle, because it only works with a 32-bit bottle and a 32-bit Office binary.

Online update you mean ?

I'm using 32-bit for both bottle and office.
