Looking for suggestions re Java program

I'm looking for suggestions on how to get my glucometer program (recording readings from my blood sugar meter) working in Linux. It comes as a Windows program that runs under XP, Win7, Win 8 as long as you have Java JRE 7 or later installed. It also has to install a special USB driver to read my glucometer.

Do I need to install a Windows JRE in the same bottle I install my Glocometer program (Glocfacts 3.07) in?

If it requires a special driver to do its thing than it will not work with wine.

Which type of glucose monitor do you have? I know that I've gotten the data from one of these using linux. IIRC it was trivial (mounted as a filesystem or something).
