Codeweavers need a different solution

Codeweavers needs a new approach.

More and more software is cross platform. There is playonlinux which is free. There is virtualbox and vmware which are free. Now Steam is offering Proton. With all this I can't justify spending $60 a pop for each upgrade. I bought version 13 and when I didn't buy 14 and was left out and could only get the next version at full-price. You really need a subscription model where we pay $9.99 a month. I would have done that over the years and you would have made more money off me than the current approach.

I would also combine that with a donation model where users can contribute to getting a piece of software running. So 100 people want Affinity Photo to run and pitch in $25 a piece for a donation of $2,500. Somebody gets a script working with your software and you get 40% and they get the rest.

Anyway, just my opinion. Take it with a grain of salt.

you don't have to justify spending $60 a pop for each upgrade,
as you don't have to upgrade to the Newer Version, unless there is an issue with your current version.

  • if that version does indeed work, then you can just stay put. .. No Upgrade Needed.

there is an common misconception, that you have to pay $60 each year,, to use Crossover - - you don't have to,

further more, when compared to what Microsoft charges for it's software - - Cx is an much cheaper option.

    • just my 2c .. ..
