Set Firefox to open Office type documents with Office

I've got Crossover running on Linux Mint 14. When I open an Office type document (doc, docx, xls, etc...) it does not give me the option to open it with Office. I have to save it first, then it will open properly using the appropriate Office application by default.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Jason.

There are probably better/easier ways to do this, but on my system I set this up by creating a small helper script (essentially an alias):

#!/bin/bash
/opt/cxoffice/bin/wine --bottle "Microsoft Office" --cx-app winword.exe "$@"

You might have to change the path to wine and your bottle name. For me, I put this script under "/home/tirian/.cxoffice/Microsoft Office/bin" since my bottle's name is "Microsoft Office".

After making this script executable, when the "open with..." dialog pops up from Firefox, just select this new script.

Obviously this just works for Word documents but you can easily create other wrappers for Excel, PowerPoint, etc. If you need help I can provide those as well.

If you're interested, you can read more in the online documentation.

Also, crossover will often make a "Windows Applications" section on your applications menu. Look under ~/.cxoffice/<bottle name>/desktopdata/cxmenu for *.lnk files. Those are scripts that serve the same purpose as the one I gave above.

For me this this directory is: ~/.cxoffice/Microsoft Office/desktopdata/cxmenu/StartMenu.C^3A_users_crossover_Start+Menu/Programs/Microsoft Office
