I tried a trialware version of Crossover and have decided it is not for me. I have tried uninstalling using the Crossover Uninstaller and it says it is uninstalled but still is there and still opens. I tried synaptic but I can't find any package marked crossover. I also tried software centre but it has it marked as not installed. I run ubuntu 12.04 64 bit.
Is it safe to just delete the folders /opt/cxoffice and /home/david/.cxoffice

Yep, just delete /opt/cxoffice, ~/cxoffice, and ~/.cxoffice to completely remove Crossover from your machine.
