Office Programms does noch not run

Hello,

I installed Corssover 22.1.1 on my Ubuntu 22.04.2 Laptop. Then I installed in Crossover Office 2016. When I now start Office Programms like World, the programs are starting. But then I get always a message: "Program does not answer. Wait or break up?"

If I klick on "Wait" the message appears again after some seconds.

Working with the programs is not possible.

Any Idea, what I can do?

Greetings Frank

After installing Crossover I did the following 1st:
sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386 libxrandr2:i386 libnss-mdns:i386
sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386 libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386 vulkan-utils

Then check for any missing files/plugins:

sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto
sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxdiag

If missing files/plugins try:
sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav:i386 \gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly:i386 gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad:i386
sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix missinglibncurses missinglibncurses.amd64

I used the Standard Office 2016 Tie installer (APR 2020 version) which creates a Windows 7 bottle but added the following:
DirectX Modern Games; MS Visual C++ 2008(SP1), 2012 & 2015; OpenAL; MS .NET 4, 4.5, 4.5.2, 4.6.2, 4.7.2 & 4.8;
MS Visual Basic SP6;
MS Visual Basic Power Pack;
XNA Framework 4.0;
Crossover HTML Rendering (IE8);,
Windows Imaging Componant,
MS Visual J# 2.0.

I then installed:
WindowsDesktopRuntime v5, v6 & v7 x86;
Visual C++ 2015-2019;

If “Restart Now” pops up, select it.

Rebooted bottle and everything (as per previous statements ran fine) except the issues with Outlook.

WindowsDesktopRuntime version 5.0.17 here:
https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/thank-you/runtime-desktop-5.0.17-windows-x86-installer

Hope this helps.

Hello Craig,

thanks for your tips. I Tryed cxfix --auto and cxdiag.

cxfix told me that there where nothing to fix. But i get the message:

shm_open(/CAPI20_shared_memory.v01000010, ...) failed - Permission denied

This cold explain the error message in Office. But I do not know how to solve these permission problem.

Do you have any further idea?

Greetings Frank

Hi Frank,

The only thing I can find re the error message is a shared memory access issue
E.G. https://askubuntu.com/questions/1264273/permission-denied-on-shared-memory-segments-in-dev-shm

You could try (which I have done before) completely uninstalling Crossover and do the following prior to re-installation:
In Terminal:
sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove
Then:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Then:
Reboot the system
(FYI - I also installed Wine prior to Crossover - not sure if this helped or not but I have less issues since installing this way)
Reinstall Crossover & run the following:
Do this after initial install:
sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa:i386 libxrandr2:i386 libnss-mdns:i386
sudo apt install mesa-vulkan-drivers mesa-vulkan-drivers:i386 libvulkan1 libvulkan1:i386 vulkan-utils
Then check for any missing files/plugins:

  1. sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix --auto
  2. sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxdiag
    If missing files/plugins try:
    sudo apt install gstreamer1.0-libav:i386 \gstreamer1.0-plugins-ugly:i386 gstreamer1.0-plugins-bad:i386
    sudo /opt/cxoffice/bin/cxfix missinglibncurses missinglibncurses.amd64

I found 'libncurses.so.5' library file missing originally. Installed it via the Synaptic Package Manager.

Hope this helps mate.

I installed wine this way - I am Using/Running Linux Mint 21.1 based upon Ubuntu:

sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade -y
sudo apt install dirmngr ca-certificates software-properties-common gnupg gnupg2 apt-transport-https curl -y
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
curl -s https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key | gpg --dearmor | sudo tee /usr/share/keyrings/winehq.gpg >
/dev/null
echo deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/winehq.gpg] http://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ jammy main | sudo
tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/winehq.list
sudo apt update
sudo apt install winehq-stable --install-recommends -y
sudo apt install wine64 wine32 -y
wine --version
winecfg – installs wine Mono & Gecko; set dpi to 120
Go to Libraries and Add ‘riched20’ & ‘riched32’
Then in Terminal:
sudo nano /etc/nsswitch.conf
AND add "wins" just before "dns" on the "hosts:" line.
