Half-Life 2 Error

Running half-life episode 2, in the middle of the game, at a particular point driving through a tunnel, the game loads, then quits and I get this error

"Failed to lock index buffer in CMeshDX8;;LockIndexBuffer"

image

what can I do?

I suspect a driver/graphics issue, but it may have been a coincidence. Does this happen at this exact point every time? (can it be reproduced)? Or, did something happen that may have caused this (did someone send you a message in Steam at that point)? If it can be reproduced easily, please file a support ticket (or send an email to info@codeweavers.com) so that we can dive into the issue and work to get it solved!

I have the same problem with Half-Life 2 Episode 1, at the end of the Lowlife level, as your getting off the elevator, and it happens every time. Same error message as well.

Couple of suggestions -

1: make sure that your graphics drivers are up-to-date (mainly applicable for Linux users)

2: Change the amount of emulated vidmem by editing the HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Wine/Direct3D/VideoMemorySize registry key. To access the registry go to Run Command, select the bottle with Steam, and then type "regedit". It is a string value that specifies the vidmem size in megabytes. You may have to add the VideoMemorySize string value to the Direct3D registry.
