How can I run an exe file which is not an installer?

I have an old software package which runs on my XP which has no installer.
It's a exe file which needs to startup directly, actually it can also run from DOS.

There are several ways to go about doing this.

I would start by creating a new win98 bottle through CrossOver and then putting the executable file in the 'Program Files' under the 'drive_c' of that bottle. Once this is done, load CrossOver so that it is displayed on the title bar. Then, highlight 'Programs' and select 'Run Command...'. When the window opens, select the bottle you created and then browse to the executable file and select it. Now, run the command to see if it opens in CrossOver. If it does you can save your command and have a menu item in CrossOver to the application. If it does not the program may require additional building blocks to get going. CrossOver has mixed results with applications such as this, so be patient. If you have further questions, please let us know at info@codeweavers.com. If you have tried the above and are not finding luck, we may be able to offer more tips based on your results.

Sorry if I'm inappropriately hijacking this thread, but I think my question is related to the original inquiry, you could see it as a follow-up question:

How would I go about running a .exe off a network share? I'm trying to minimize Windows on my work computer as much as possible so I'm curently evaluating CrossOver to run our backoffice client app which is installed on a server and only linked to the client computers through a share.

Thanks for any help.

You could try using the Crossover Run Command to pick the .exe on the file server, but I doubt it'll work because of file-locking issues and different underlying filesystems.

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
