I am running the Steam version of Flatout 2 on my Macbook which crashes after about 15 seconds, never letting me actually play the game. I am using OS X 10.5.6. It works fine on my friends Macbook Pro, so I don't understand why it doesn't work for me. Here are my system specs.

Can anyone help me get this running?

Such issues(works on Mac type A but not a different Mac of type B) usually points to flaws in the graphics driver. Keep an eye on the MacOS updates.

It could of course be a CrossOver bug too. We might depend on driver specific behavior in some cases, or a special extension specific codepath is broken, so make sure to vote on the game 😉
