I'm running steam and have downloaded a new game. Star wars battlefront II. It's been downloaded and installed. Every time I try to open it says it needs its one time setup which is installing directx. The window goes away and the white screen appears for a few seconds and then disappears. and then that's it. I'm assuming this happening because directx doesn't work on mac. Is there anyway around this? Or have a wasted 20 dollars?
You can go to Crossover preferences and uncheck 'hide service packs', then go to the Configure menu, Manage Bottles, and select the bottle containing Steam. Then click the Applications tab, Install Software.. and you'll be able to install DirectX 9 into the bottle with Steam.
If it still doesn't work after that then I'm guessing the game won't run in Crossover yet. You can check winehq.org's app database to see if anyone has reported getting the game working yet, and what they did to get it working.
this really seems to be plaguing a lot of steam games. they say they need the newest version of directx or something. try to install it but doesn't get anywhere. I can't even selection the "repair or remove" button since it's greyed out.
