Shortcuts to Server Volumes?

I'm evaluating Crossover as a possible solution that will allow teachers at my school to run windows-only gradebook software on Intel Macs. I installed the software and it seems to work great... however, our gradebooks are stored on a network volume that requires quite a bit of navigation in the FILE > OPEN window. I don't mind clicking through many directories; but I know that less tech savvy teachers will be confused. Is there a way to create shortcuts so that the FILE > OPEN window will recognize them? Mac aliases and windows shortcuts (.lnk files) don't appear in that window.

Any ideas?

I partially answered my own question. In the user documentation, it appears as though you can create mapped drives that windows apps can see (chapter 8, p.37) However, when I enter the first command into terminal, I get a "no such file or directory" error.

This is specifically what I entered:

manolis-d:~ davidmanolis$ ln -s /Volumes/fs1_vol1/Apps/IGPDATA/ "~/Library/Application Support/Crossover/Bottles/IGPro_v94/dosdevices/x:"

and the error was:
ln: ~/Library/Application Support/Crossover/Bottles/IGPro_v94/dosdevices/x:: No such file or directory

I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks!

Third post: seemed to have found a solution:

Configure Bottle > Control Panels > WineCFG. Clicking on the Drives tabs allowed me to map a new drive- and it recognizes the server volume. Kind of a pain that it didn't let me assign a drive letter; but once the drive was mapped, I could go to the bottles file in Application Support and change the letter name there.

Also, haven't tested what happens if the volume isn't mounted before I launch the windows app.
