I have downloaded a trial of Crossover Mac. I would like to run some "network" applications with it. That is, applications that have been installed on a Windows server on our network. Would Crossover Mac be able to do this? If so, how?
It is not possible to install these applications locally as they are databases and are licensed only as network apps.
It is vaguely possible that this will work... it depends a lot on the nature of the software. Before you test, though, I'd recommend that you arrange to have these apps /not/ use the 'real' datafiles if any writing is involved. I'd hate to have a misbehaving application corrupt a database for everyone else on the network.
Of course if the software is only reading networked files and not writing to them, you should just go ahead and try it and see what happens. The 'Run command...' dialog should be useful for launching the app, and it also provides the ability to create an icon for easy subsequent launches.
I used the run command to try ClassroomXP on the network. Everything seemed to work well (although it was very slow) until the login. I entered my username and password in the dialog box and received the message that I was already logged in on another workstation. This was not the case, I checked with another method. I don't know if this is currently solvable.
