Symbolic links

Hi,

A few of the Windows programs that I run on my Mac using Crossover have a lot of the same files and dependencies in their directories. I'd like to delete the duplicates and replace them with symlinks to the remaining files, but wanted to know if Crossover can handle OS X symlinks. Would this work?

Cheers,
Antonio

In theory, yes symlinks should work as they should make no difference. Symlinks are really handled by the OS at a level where Crossover shouldn't even be aware of them.

My only caveat is that if we are talking making symlinks between bottles, you are foregoing the nice isolation between them. If there are any special versions of libraries installed by your software (it happens), you could be facing some odd interactions. Crossover itself still won't know the difference, and wouldn't directly be responsible for any unwanted effects of symlinks. So if this is the way you want to do things, you are entirely responsible for the symlink's effects.

So you have an interesting idea that should work, but your mileage may vary. For my part, I'm not entirely convinced the risk is worth the savings in disk space.

Good luck!

Yes! This definitely works, i have a Wrapper version of a game that i run, but i also have a bottle on only a few K where i have symbolic link for all folders instead of duplicates.
