I've had very good luck with using CrossOver on my Mac. The only program that doesn't install so far is my Topo North America 10.0.
I'm installing from the program DVD. When I simply let the installer run as an unsupported application, I get an error message that the program requires IE 7 or higher to run. So, I tried setting up a bottle with IE 8 and then IE 9, and tried installing Topo to the IE bottle. Each time I try installing, I get a series of database error messages until CrossOver shuts down the installation process.
Is there anything else I can try? I don't want to give up on Topo just yet. Thanks!
Well, yeah, you could tell use those errors...
And then there's the debug log that you could generate as shown at this page (click here). I'm not a Mac user, so I don't know how much I can help, but I thought I would get the ball rolling. The are a few advocates that are Mac user, I'm sure they'll turn up at some point.
Get us those errors and the log, that should be some help. As for the log, put it in [code][/code] brakets with the code button so that this doesn't become a monster thread.
Here is the error I get when I try to install. The window containing this error appears several times before the installation shuts down. Here is the error:

Since i can't actually install the program into the bottle, the .exe file isn't there, so would a debug tell you anything? Internet Explorer 8 runs just fine on its own.
Well, those error messages are some of the worse I have seen.
That being said, what you can do is point to the installer as the executable to be ran. Preferably, choose the bottle you want to install this into, but since it doesn't go anywhere, any bottle will do. That will generate a debug log for the installer itself, and since that is what is bugging out, that is what we need anyway. Sorry for not being more specific the first time.
On another note, I just realized this product can run with a usb GPS unit. If you intend to run this software along with the usb GPS, this might not be worth the effort. There is little chance that we are going to get the GPS going with Wine / Crossover having no official support for USB. With the execption of printers and scanners, that essentially goes through the services of the OS itself, I have had zero luck with any usb device in the past. So if a GPS is a must for your use, I really don't think you'll be happy with the result, even if we get things running with the software.
I wasn't planning to use the GPS features of this program. I only wanted access to the maps and the map editing capabilities.
I'll try the debug procedure in the way you suggest, and post the results. If figuring this out will involve a lot of effort on your part or on someone else's part, it may not be worth it. There are some pretty good map apps out there. But if some fairly easy solution turns up, so much the better. Thanks for your help, but don't feel you have to do too much!
Don't worry about it, I enjoy the challenge, and I reserve the right to call it quits if I'm in over my head... 😋

For future reference a [code] bracket should precede your text, then a [\code] should follow the text, putting everything in its own little window, scrolling window if needed. There's something you did which either erased or moved the brackets, making for long post.
That being said, I didn't see much that made sense to me. Maybe someone wil spot something, but I'm afraid I don't know what could help this along.
Thanks for being willing to check this out. I see the code bracket at the start of the log, but not at the end. I thought I put it in, but perhaps not! If anyone else wants to jump in and help, that will be great.
Yeah, there some out there that are more knowledgeable than me. Maybe they'll find some clue I didn't see.
