Are bottles able to enter App Nap state in Mavericks? I notice in activity monitor Crossover itself goes into App Nap, but the individual bottles stay with a "No" next under the App Nap column, and don't seem to drop in resources when switching to another application outside of Crossover. I am on 12.5.1 and I have tested this with Word/Excel 2007 bottles. If this is not supported, will it be in the future?
I don't really understand the technical details of App Nap, all I can find so far is marketing buzz. I think the main problem is that Windows applications don't know about it, so we cannot truthfully tell OSX that the applications support App Nap.
As far as I understand it, App Nap takes away CPU time from poorly written applications. Ideally, they'd put themselves into sleep by waiting for user or network input when they have nothing to do. That has been a central design idea for multitasking operating system for decades now, but applications, and especially Adobe Flash applets in browsers, are doing a horrible job in that regard.
