Mac book pro / OSX / SQL connection to remote instance

I have installed cross over (flawless).
I have installed an unsupported app (shipworks).

It runs perfect.
except -

I need to connect to a remote SQL instance, installed on a windows 7 home box (64bit).
When I try to connect it says "A network related or instance specific error .... error 26 - Error locating Server/Instance provided"

I know the server name and instance are correct (5 other windows boxes all connect just fine).
I have also verified the login (sa) and password.
Firewall is off on the remote machine and my mac
tcp/ip and remote connections on remote machine enabled.

Any suggestions?
If I can get this to work, I can dump my second windows box and just use my mac!

Bill
