Downloading Windows Media Foundation support workaround into a Crossover bottle using winetricks

So, I tried to download a game, but it seems that it needs Windows Media Foundation, since Crossover doesn't have it, I tried to apply a workaround (https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install). I have winetricks installed now, but I'm not sure how to get the workaround into the Wine bottle through the teminal, could someone help me out?

To clarify, I'm trying to run it on Mac Big Sur

You’d need to manually install the dlls into the bottle then manually register the dlls and import the registry entries.

Also winetricks won’t work with crossover without workarounds.

Also please note that the workaround you linked to is legally problematic, so CodeWeavers staff will not be able to offer any advice on this matter.

Best,
Meredith

In that case, I suppose there won't be any support for Windows Media Foundation or Media Feature Pack stuff on Crossover anytime soon? I'm more or less just stuck on how to get a particular game to work, as WMF is either missing or not updated. If some alternative solution could be provided, I'm willing to just send the game's player log, if it helps.

Hi again,

Wine has its own implementation of Windows Media Foundation, which is constantly getting improvements. What we can't offer support for is using native Windows Media Foundation, because it's not legally distributable beyond a Windows installation.

Best,
Meredith

Agreed on the legal implications.

The flip side of this problem is the current macOS CX builds lack gstreamer support and there’s no infrastructure for the macOS backends anymore the last one was the the long deprecated “quicktime” backend that was 32Bit only.
