Why ~/Documents access?

I'm probably being dumb, but I was surprised to see request to access my Documents folder from Windows app running from Crossover bottle. I was expecting this to act a bit more like a VM and all files saved in the bottle. I can always mount a Z: drive in the bottle if I want to access Mac files.

I feel like I would like to change this default behavior. But is there a good reason why it is set up that way? Maybe I should be glad but it feels weird to me.

Hi Jon,

CrossOver integrates with your desktop environments, so items that would be saved in the Documents folder on a Windows machine are saved in the Documents folder of your present machine. This is also helpful if you want to be able to access files created by a Windows application running through CrossOver with native macOS applications as well. It'd be a much bigger hassle to dig deep into the bottle for a file you want to e.g. email to someone else that it is to have it already in your ~/Documents folder.

Best,
Meredith

A virtual machine will also end up requiring the same permissions it will just be asking for them up front.

The problem with using drive Z (aka “/“) is you’ll end up giving windows applications even more access and they’ll still also end up requesting access to Documents etc.

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
