Antivirus Software (e.g., Bitdefender, Avast, and AVG) and CrossOver

If your antivirus software is incorrectly flagging (and potentially deleting) CrossOver files, you need to manually mark CrossOver and its files as safe in your AV software. For a brief explanation of why this happens, read this note from Jeremy (CodeWeavers founder).

Report incorrect flagging (false positives) of CrossOver to your antivirus software folks!

• Bitdefender — Select False Positive from the drop-down menu.
• Avast — Default form is for a false positive.
• AVG — Default form is for a false positive.
• Avira — Select Suspected False Positive (Not Malware) under Upload file as.
• Norton — Select Incorrectly detected by Norton.

The simplest way to stop antivirus from interfering when installing CrossOver is to disable it and then proceed with the installation. If you cannot disable your antivirus software, try downloading a fresh version of CrossOver and adding an exception for the new file (i.e., /Users/(your home folder)/Downloads/CrossOver.app) before attempting to install it.

To avoid issues with your AV software once CrossOver is installed, your AV software's exceptions list should include the following:

• /Users/(your home folder)/Applications/CrossOver*
• /Users/(your home folder)/Library/Application Support/CrossOver*
  Note: The Library folder is hidden by default. To show hidden folders, press ⌘ (command) + Shift + . (period).
• /Applications/CrossOver.app*

*If you did not install CrossOver by choosing Move to Applications or you changed the file name, adjust your paths accordingly.
