Guide to install MS Office ?

Hi,
Currently running GNU/Linux.
I run Arco Linux which an Arch based distro. All latest updates applied.

For work reasong I need to use Office 365 or any recent Office.
I can do that in a VM but would much like to do it in Wine/Crossover.

But last time I tried, I installed dozens of packages only to find out that nothing works.

The so called "guide" provided by Codeweavers is just a joke : a generic thing to install apps and nothing specific to Office.

So my question is simple :

  • has anyone REALLY been able to install MS Office (recent) on Arch ?
  • if so, can he provide a guide about how he achieved it so I can hope to replicate that successful install ?

Thanks a lot.

Regards.

FRED

Hi!

For Arch Linux based distro's, I do this:

Install Crossover from AUR.
When you launch Crossover for the first time, additional dependencies will be installed.
Activate your product.
Then, go to install Windows Software.
From the updated list, choose Office 365.
Select your previously downloaded installer. You will need OfficeSetup.exe (32 bits).
And that's all! A Win7 32 bits will be created and Office 365 with all required software will be installed.

Working fine on my EndeavourOS installation.
Best regards!

How do you initiate the built in feature to perform updates to the installed Office 365? It never does anything.

Hi there,

You should only be getting security updates for Office 365 with CrossOver. Currently, it is only possible to install Office 365 into a Windows 7 bottle, and Microsoft is only providing security updates for Windows 7:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/deployoffice/endofsupport/windows-7-support
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/update-history-office-win7

We know that Microsoft will stop providing updates to Windows 7 by January 2023, and we plan to have support for Windows 10 installations by then. At that point, there will be more robust updates available when installing with CrossOver.

Best,
Meredith
