Mapping Mac file type/creator extensions into a bottle

If an application has file types it works with on Windows, can these be mapped into the bottled version of the App on Mac so that the application will respond to double-clicks of the file type?

Also, I have found one "multi-platform" CD Autorun facility called CDEverywhere (http://www.cdeverywhere.com) - are there others?

Assuming there is more than one of these types of offerings, which is best and why?

Thanks,
D.

Windows uses file name extensions to associate with applications. CrossOver Mac uses roughly the same mechanism.

So, the Mac file type and creator codes are not used, only the file name extension. If a bottle contains a Windows program which has registered itself as a handler for a given extension, then that will be reflected in one of the Mac-native helper mini-applications that CrossOver creates.

If CrossOver can figure out which specific program that an extension is matched to, and if that program has a Start Menu entry which gets mapped to a CrossOver launcher in the Programs folder, then CrossOver will associate the file extension with the launcher for that program. Otherwise, CrossOver will associate the extension with the bottle helper.

Either way, in the Finder you should be able to use the Open With menu to open a given file with the appropriate CrossOver helper and that will, in turn, launcher the appropriate Windows application.

You can also use the Get Info window to permanently associate that file with the CrossOver helper, or even all files with that extension.

Please Note: This Forum is for non-application specific questions relating to installation/configuration of CrossOver. All application-specific posts to this Forum will be moved to their appropriate Compatibility Center Forum.
