Someone just told me about Crossover and said a lot of Windows Apps
can be run with it. Questions:
Can DOS programs be run as well? The DOS program I specifically
have in mind is Word Perfect 5.1.
Hi,
Crossover is based on Wine, and Wine is not an emulator - it's a reimplementation of the Windows
API. As such it will not run DOS programs natively, however it does run the DOSbox emulator very
well...see;
If DOS programs can be run, can Windows programs be run
simultaneously with DOS programs?
On the proviso you don't confuse a DOS program with programs requiring win3.xx
it should be fine to run multiple instances of dosbox and therefore multiple
DOS programs at the same time...in theory at least, I haven't tried it but the
concept is sound. What interoperability may or maynot be needed between the
DOS programs themselves would be a consideration, but such would largely depend
on what you wanted to achieve here, and which DOS programs you refer to.
Cheers!
edit: oh, I should point out that there are native Mac ports of dosbox - you
don't need crossover to run dosbox
