Can't click on ISO file

I'm attempting to install MS Office 2010.

This is the file name: DVD5_Office_Professional_Plus_2010w_SP1_W32_English.iso

But, when I run the CrossOver installer, it won't allow me to click on the file. It's "grayed out." The cross-tie won't work. And, selecting the entire folder - in this case my desktop - does not solve the problem.

Can anyone help me? I've been fiddling with this all day...and it's making me crazy!

Thanks.

I can solve that for you! "iso" isn't an executable, it's a disk image used to generate a CD/DVD. Crossover can't use that directly.

There are two solutions paths:

1) Burn the image: I imagine you have a dvd burner drive, as most modern system do. Just use whaterver software you have to make a cd or dvd depending on the size of the image. The file size is part of the file's properties, but then your burning software will tell you if your disk is too small. Having a cd/dvd of your software happens to be a very good backup, and probably a good idea on its own. It probably is a DVD, judging from the file name. Once done, Crossover can just use the files from the DVD!

2) Extract the files from the iso: Not being a Mac user (Linux geek) I had to google this idea. It seem that Mac, like any good Unix inspired system, have the ability to extract iso files on their own, as per these instructions. Among possible solutions are also a few free apps, like poweriso, but you shouldn't need those if I understand correctly.

Once you have extracted the files, you should find some kind of file, like setup.exe or something to that effect. That is what Crossover is designed to interact with.

If I understand correctly what is happening, I think there is a simpler solution. Your ISO file is a disk image which CrossOver cannot interact with directly, but you can "mount" the image by double-clicking on it from the OS X Finder. You will have to open a Finder window where the ISO is located and double-click it: that should "mount" the image automatically.

Then, next time you open CrossOver's software installer, it should automatically be detected and let you proceed.

Good idea, but burning the image is a good backup, which is still a good idea in itself.

Hard drives fail, no matter the brand of computer.

If you open the .iso in finder it will mout it as a local drive. The corssover installer recognized Office 2010 and added it to the list of install locations.

You can't open it the .iso directly from the crossover installer.
